Scott McDowell comes from a family of artists. A self taught artist he
first started with metal in 1968 working with sterling
silver. In 1971 Scott moved to Martha’s Vineyard Island and opened a
silver jewelry shop working in both gold and silver. The “Vineyard” is
a fishing community and Scott’s love of fishing influenced his work He
began to fashion fish out of copper. His art turned towards his
environment. Scott’s work has been featured in magazines, books and in
national catalogs, such as Sundance and Northstyle. Interior
decorators and architects now use his work extensively around the
country. The Copperworks of Martha’s Vineyard has become known for
unique high quality pieces from copper weathervanes, lighting,
kitchen pot racks to wall art. Very whimsical mechanical pieces are a
specialty from Scott’s studio and are sought after by art dealers and
